The largest turnout of the year so far saw 110 people take part, including an enthusiastic group of Mini Moa’s (6 and under) doing 1km and nearly 50 kids 7-13 years doing 2.5km.
Reuben Duker in 10:33 just held out the first girl, Bella Ives 10:48. Forbes Kennedy and Peter Scott were next boys (behind Bella though) with Kate Wasley and Caitlyn McKenzie 2nd and 3rd girls. Girls out-numbered boys on the day and out of the top twenty placings, 11 were girls and 9 boys.
The 5km Womens event was won comfortably by Juanita Paterson in 21:24, now in the final two weeks of prep prior to the Rotorua Marathon. Raquel Lopez was second and Ellen van Looy in her first run with Feilding Moa was 3rd.
The Colts 5km was won by David Martin in 19:20 from his brother Adam and then Luke Scott.
The Men did three laps, 7.5km, with the win going to Paul Wasley in 31:18, nearly three minutes clear of Mark Evans and Rob Dabb.
The “Muddling Moa of The Week” wooden spoon was awarded to Perry Newburn on the basis that 36km is perhaps slightly too excessive a distance for an effective race warm-up
