Nearly 100 people turned up for the 76th Opening Day run, and of these around one-third were attending their first Moa run. The Mini-Moas (6 and under) kicked off proceedings with a 1km run, and great to have 11 lining up on this first week. These are some of our future champions!
Boys and Girls completed one lap, 2.5km, with fastest Girl being Madison Keightley in 10:33, marginally ahead of first Boy, Nelson Doolan, 10:37.
The Girl beats Boy theme continued in the 5km event, with Tessa Webb home first in 19:23 from Adam Martin 20:30. Tessa felt she had a bit left in the tank too, so gives the guys something to chase in coming weeks.
The Senior Men did 7.5km, and didn’t have to worry so much about women beating them – though had some been in the field, it could have been embarrassing as the times seemed to reflect a bit of posturing for a good handicap. First in was Shane Reed 33:35 from Andy Martin 34:15.
