Race Summary:

Feilding Moa Harriers & Manawatu Striders successfully defended their titles in the Halcombe Relay held on Saturday 25th July. Over 200 people took part with 30 teams from Wanganui to Levin contesting the six person 29.2km road relay.

In the Run category, Feilding Moa took the early lead with over a minute advantage over Bush Harriers and Wanganui Harriers. Andrew Davenport (Bush Harriers) and Louis Hogan (Wanganui Harriers) went past Feilding on leg 2, with Bush now in the overall lead by 1 minute. The lead then see-sawed between Bush and Feilding until the start of the final leg where Bush started with a 30 second advantage.  This was quickly eroded by Feildings Niam Macdonald recording 16:18 for the final 4.9km and giving Feilding the win in 1:46:43.

A very fast final leg of 15:28 from Christian Conder (Wanganui) 28 relegated Bush Harriers to third place.

The Moa Junior womens team, all less than 15 years old, were fifth overall in 2:03:51.
Two Feilding Moa Kids teams were comprised entirely of 7-11 year old girls. They equipped themselves superbly, finishing less than a minute apart from each other and at an average pace of less than 5 minutes per kilometre.

Eleven teams contested the walk and Manawatu Striders teams filled the first three places. The Badders team, taking part in their thirteenth successive Halcombe Relay, were the best of them in 3:15:28. Best Walks of the day came on the final leg of 4.96km. Sue Hoskin recorded 30:29, Denise Brunskill 30:52 and 12 year old Bradyn Popow (Bush Harriers) 31:10.
Rob Weir (Striders) did the first leg for the Beauties and Beasts team, then went on to complete the full 29.2km in 3 hours 25 minutes, an impressive 15 minutes ahead of his team.
