This short road race course of 1.85km per lap is certainly challenging with an up and down to the halfway turn , then repeated on the way home. Accumulated ascent measures out at 23 metres per lap.
Girls Handicap line honours went to Millie Evans who out sprinted the chasing group, which included older sister Lucy, over the last 400 metres just when they thought they would catch her. The boys saw Benjamin Petch just hold out fast finishing Fergus Doolan by 9 seconds.
The Colts was close race. Peter Coxon started 1 minute behind Karl Werner and caught up with Karl with about 1.3km to go, but there was no easy run home from that point. Karl picked things up and laid down a solid challenge such that at the line Peter just nosed in front by 1 second.
Debra Arnold had a solid training run for todays race by doing a chilly Marathon at Taupo last weekend. She worked her way to the front of the womens field for a good win and with a margin the handicapper will be sure to note.
The mens 7.4km was nearly an upset with “Go” runner (well, walker), Mark Thompson cresting the hill with 450m downhill to do and no one in sight behind…until Scott Whitley came into view and saw where the competition was. He caught Mark in the final 100 metres for his first handicap win as a Feilding Moa member.
