A large contingent of Feilding Moa HAC attended this years Dorne Cup at Trentham Memorial park. While it’s a flat course, it is deceptively tough due to the change of pace required to navigate the stop banks and water hazards. Last year conditions were quite wet and slippery. This year was a stark contrast with a firm and fast course.

Some of our youth members were using today’s event as a useful “sighter” ahead of the NZ Secondary School Champs being held at the same venue on 20th June.
Highlights of the day for the club were the second-placed finishes of Andre Lepine-Day (senior men); Emmett Hanly (U10 boys); with Frankie Johnson third in the U10 girls. For Le Pine-Day this was his third time placing as runner-up in the Dorne Cup.

Race 5 Senior men, Masters Men 35-59 – 8km
Final race of the day was the much anticipated “Dorne Cup” race comprising Senior Men through to M50 grades. We were the defending team champions, settling for third this year. Our congratulations to Wellington Scottish, with their 6 counting runners finishing within the top 20 placings, and despite no individual podium placings, they won the cup for the first time since 2022.
The race was an exciting affair. While NZ Half Marathon, 10,000m and cross country champion, Toby “hammer” Gualter predictably bualted to the front early on and won gun-to-tape, there was great tussle for the minor placings and team honours.
Feilding’s own Andre Le Pine-Day moved in to 2nd place part way through the first of the two 4km laps and held off a strong challenge from Liam Chesney (WHAC). From a spectating point of view it appeared Andre was making up ground on Toby over the final 2km, finishing the 8km in 25:40 to Gualter’s 25:11. Isaac Murphy was 7th in 26:35, Luke Scott 14th 28:24, Nick Johnson 16th 28:25 (and 4th place in the M35 grade). Others to finish were Josh Dunstan-Brown 29:26, Hany Nahkla 30:35, Jonathan Meads 30:55, Nick Hanly 31:34, Andrew Pennyfather 33:35, Paul Wasley 39:59: and Mark Evans 41:06.
