The 64th consecutive Feilding Marathon was held on Saturday 3rd November. The race starts and finishes at Timona Park, with the turnaround at Stanway Hall on Makino Rd. Over 240 runners and walkers took part across events ranging from 5km to the marathon. The youngest was Joshua Addenbrooke of Feilding who ran the 5km. The oldest competitor eighty year old John Stuart of Palmerston North completed the half marathon walk in 3 hours 25 minutes.
For the first time in 17 years a local Feilding runner won the marathon. Nick Johnston finished in 2:32:14, over 35 minutes ahead of second placed Nicholas Bagnall (Wellington) at 3:10:18 with Tim Carpenter (Palmerston North) third in 3:17:19.

Johnston recorded the fastest Feilding Marathon time in the past 41 years, though still seven minutes adrift of the 1967 race record of 2:25:20 established by John Comber. The out and back course climbs 140 metres to the turnaround and Johnston was pleased to record a faster time over the second half. “This is the first marathon where I have had a negative-split”.
Johnston won the Sir Matthew Oram cup for fastest time and the Presidents Cup as first local runner. He combined with Feilding Moa clubmates Mark Hudson and Patricia Stichbury to retain the Trevor Ludeman Cup for club teams.
Womens winner of the Kohiti Trophy was Anita Chan of Palmerston North in 3 hours 44minutes 55 seconds, followed in by previous seven time Feilding Marathon winner, Ingrid Frost (Auckland) in 4:03:51 with Michelle Parker of Matamata third in 4:09:53.

The half marathon was won overall by Vern Preston of Hastings in 1:25:01, with a narrow gap to Steffan Wong (Kapiti) in 1:25:25. Wong led the race most of the way but Preston had the stronger finish. Seventy nine year old Elizabeth Calverley of Feilding did the walk in 3 hours 1 minute, while her son Richard, back visiting from New Jersey where he farms ran the half along with her grandaughter Jessica of Dunedin. Richard ran for Feilding Moa as a junior in the early 1970’s and fondly recalled Roy Lamberton as his coach at that time.
