20 July AMW Cross country results

Results from Manawatu Wanganui cross country championships held at Lundon park, Whanganui.

A rain-filled morning left the course wet in places, but when the sun emerged from midday, the worst of this was starting to dry out by race time.

The undulating 2km lap included about 25 metres of elevation gain.

One of the most hotly contested races was the Under 12 girls 2km. With 100m to go there were three runners vying to take the win. It went to Levin’s Fleur Turner in 9:27 from Feilding Moa duo Anika Hyland 9:28 and Abby Leckie 9:32.

Other standout runs were Nick Johnston (Moa), winning the masters Men 7.75km in 28:40 and Sally Gibbs (Wanganui) who took out the Senior women’s 7.75km in 33:32.

Tauranga visitor at MZ Triathlon rep Finley Oliver led the senior men’s winner Andre Le Pine-Day through the first 7.75km, winning the U20 men in 27:36. Le Pine-Day won the men’s 9.7km in 34:35
