Highlight among the 12 Feilding Moa teams who contested the ANZAC Relay at Victoria Park, Wanganui was the win by the Men’s A Team – the first time the club has ever won that Trophy.
The team was lead out by Sam Phillips with a 3:01 first km and handed over to Samuel Stichbury at the 2km in 6:16. His 6:28 extended the lead, with David Martin running third (6:42) and a barefoot Andre Le Pine-Day making it a significant gap back to second with a 6:22 run.
Meanwhile the Womens race unfolded into a nail-biting finish. Egmont women had a handy lead at the halfway mark, with their B-team next and our A-team of Stephanie Walker and Dot Starzak well in touch just 10-seconds back in 3rd place. Poppy Rae laid down a swift 7:18 lap to bring us into 2nd spot and just 6 seconds behind Egmont. Karis Rae made brilliant early gains to be sitting on the shoulder of the Egmont runner with 1.5k to go. But Egmont fought back bravely to take the win by 7 seconds.
The team of Mairi Law, Millie & Lucy Evans and Abbie Pettersson came through to take third place in the womens division.
